Because of the size of the country, and the great variety of its landscapes and climate, Ethiopia is a microcosm of all that Africa has to offer.
Ethiopia holds some of the highest and most stunning places on the African continent, such as the jaggedly carved Simien Mountains which rises to 4620 meters at Ras Daejen, and some of the lowest, such as the Danakil Depression which is 116 meters below sea level, with its sulphur fumaroles and lunar-like landscape.
Historical traditions have been preserved. And, indeed, the ceremonies and rituals of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church, show the development of the church starting from the authentic world of the Old Testament upto now. In no other country is it possible to find yourself so dramatically transported back in time or to participate with such freedom in the sacred rituals of an archaic faith. |
